Nothing screams Las Vegas like a good western slot. Speaking of Las Vegas, Western Wilds slot by Iron Dog Studio fits the bill perfectly, as it is styled in a more cartoony fashion, the same style you see used in the Sin City. The old west is a dangerous place but also filled with a lot of hidden wealth. Holster your revolver and pack some explosives, time to blow some things up.
Arguably, the title of the best western slot of 2020 is held by Deadwood from Nolimit City. We do not believe that Western Wilds will suddenly take over this accolade, but it still should give us a good run for our money. There is no doubt, that Iron Dog Studio have recently released some impressive games, like Crown of Avalon, 1 Million Megaways and Megaways Jack, so Western Wilds has definitely made a lot of us take notice.
Western Wilds Review
Gameplay and Payouts
Perhaps the biggest mood setter is a fantastic musical arrangement, which we hear in the background. It reminds us of an old western movie, where the heroic cowboy’s life is portrayed. The Western Wilds visual style seems to be heavily inspired by a mix of old western comics and the Vegas-style slots. Although very simple, the Western Wilds slot has a nice flow to it. Western Wilds layout consists of 5 reels and 4 rows. The game also uses the tumble mechanism, meaning that all winning symbols get replaced with new ones from the top.
Just like on an old slot machine, the symbols of Western Wilds seem outdated, well at least some of them. Five low paying symbols all have the same value, these are the royals of 10-A. Notch above we six higher pay symbols, which are pictures with frames around them. These symbols feature gold carts, cowboys boots, bandits and some other similarly styled designs. Overall, the quality of these Western Wilds symbols is not that great, as these symbols have a low resolution. As the name suggests, Western Wilds comes with 3 different wilds, which are further elaborated into bonus features.
Western Wilds is a medium-high volatility slot, but the game doesn’t feel as serious. Thanks to tumble mechanism, the payline can reach up to 7776. Talking more about the actual returns, RTP is 95.80% while max payout reaches a pretty decent 6,500x. Bet range for Wester Wilds should be fine with most of you, being 0.10 – 50. All in all, Western Wilds comes with some respectable stats.
Western Wilds Bonus Features
Continuing with wilds, the regular wild symbol can appear on reel 2, 3, 4 and 5. It functions the same way as any other wild, substituting for all regular symbols. The better version of this special symbol is the Expanding Wild. Once a golden safe lands on any of the 3 middle reels, it reveals an Expanding Wild that covers the whole reel. This wild can only appear during the Western Wilds base game. It’s also possible to simultaneously get multiple golden safe symbols.
Another Western Wilds base game only feature is the TNT symbol. When landed, these symbols explode, turning themselves into regular wilds or expanding wilds. Where there is thunder there is lightning, as the first explosion can make a domino effect, triggering additional explosions, turning up to 3 symbols into Wilds. TNT’s are also a crucial step towards the Western Wilds Free Spins, as 3 TNT explosions on the same winning sequence award 8 Free Spins. To help you track the progress, there is a side meter.
During Western Wilds Free Spins, there is a conveyor belt that moves randomly positioned safes by one position. Once the safe lands on the indicator, it opens up. These Western Wilds safes include many awesome prizes/modifiers, for example, blue safe grants up to 3 wilds, green safe gives up to 5 extra free spins, the orange safe can raise the multiplier up to 3x while red safe has the ability to unlock up to 2 row positions, which are locked at the beginning of the bonus game.
While Western Wilds won’t reach the top step of western gaming, it still holds its own weight. Perhaps it was only us, but Western Wilds gave off some strong Vegas vibes, it just seems like a slot that you would find in Pioneers Club. There is not much bad to say about Western Wilds, perhaps the graphics aren’t the most beautiful we’ve seen, but they do portray the theme quite well. Same goes for payouts, nothing crazy, but still plenty of opportunities to strike some gold. Western Wilds isn’t an ambitious slot, but for what its worth, it got what it takes to bring in so dang good times.
