How Online Casino Platforms are Evolving

How Online Casino Platforms are Evolving

An interview with industry expert, Alexander Korsager from Casino.org

Online casino games have been around for decades. Unsurprisingly, what they are now is very different from what they were when they first emerged. Not only has the technology evolved in ways that were unimaginable back then, but so has connectivity.

However, that is not all, attitudes towards gambling have also shifted considerably. While gambling is still a taboo subject in some US states, it is legal in some form or other almost everywhere now. The recent rise of prediction markets (which, strictly speaking, are not gambling) in the country now allows all US citizens to back their hunches with a financial trade.

While Las Vegas remains the capital of land-based casino entertainment in the US, online casinos are not allowed to operate there. In fact, Pennsylvania is the US's largest iGaming market. Last year alone, online casinos accounted for $3.46 billion of the state's $6.79 billion gambling revenue. Gambling returned almost $3 billion in taxes to the state, and iGaming is the primary engine of gaming tax growth.

We were interested to find out more about how online casino platforms are evolving, so we sat down with Alexander Korsager, industry expert and Chief Gaming Officer at Casino.org to talk about regulatory developments in Pennsylvania's regulated market and innovation in the slots sector in particular. Casino.org has been reviewing and rating online casinos for over three decades, so they have witnessed the changing face of the industry in real time.

Welcome, Alexander. What do you think are some of the biggest innovations in online slots right now?

Alexander Korsager
I have to be honest and say just about everything. We are entering a truly innovative period for online slots and all things iGaming. While players used to play on home computers, this has totally changed, and the growth in online slots is really being driven by mobile gaming.

Is there anything in particular that makes Pennsylvania particularly innovative for iGaming, and are there any major changes happening?

Alexander Korsager

Pennsylvania is a great place for online gambling because the state licenses so many operators. However, the biggest change does not directly affect online slots.  Keystone State regulators approved the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA), which allows the 150,000 poker players in Pennsylvania the ability to play online across state lines with participants in West Virginia, New Jersey, Michigan, Nevada, and Delaware.

While that might not directly impact slots and casino game innovation, it could well have a positive knock-on effect on bonuses. As the market broadens, it becomes more competitive, which is great news for players.  As shown on Casino.org, there are no-deposit bonuses of up to $10, free spins, and deposit match bonuses of up to $1000 at some of the state's online casinos. Bonuses are how operators attract attention and find innovative ways to get players to their sites.

Are there any particular platforms that are particularly innovative for playing online slots?

Alexander Korsager
Unsurprisingly, the companies that launched as mobile-first deliver the best player experience here. DraftKings really stands out in PA for its casino app. It is rated 4.75/5 on iOS and 4.4/5 on Android. The app provides instant access to over 1,400 games, including several exclusive ones like Rocket. The games and apps are built for fast, seamless gameplay. They also offer a spin bonus that can be used on a list of featured titles.

What are the most innovative things happening within the games themselves?

Alexander Korsager
We can't talk about evolution in online casino platforms without mentioning live dealer gaming. The concept of playing these immersive games on a mobile device was unimaginable a few years back, when it was assumed they would be facilitated by Virtual Reality peripherals, but that has not been necessary. The technology is so extraordinary that people can play live dealer games on the go, wherever they are.

The biggest innovation is the incredible game-show style live games. Blending slots, TV game shows, and table games, they are a 'game changer'. Their wheel-based formats create high volatility and excitement, attracting younger, mobile-native players.

What makes these games so appealing?

Alexander Korsager
Live dealer games stream in 4k as standard, with 8k in the pipeline. This has dramatically improved the quality and reduced latency, making the gameplay feel instant.  Multiple camera angles let players switch the view, making it more immersive and closer to being on the casino floor.

What is transforming slot design?

Alexander Korsager
Hey, it's 2026, we could not do an interview about evolving casino platforms and not mention AI, could we?  Developers are introducing customized themes and session-based personalization, enabling the gaming experience to adapt in real time. This super-personalized gameplay makes each session feel fresh and unique.

As everything becomes more exciting and personalized, how do players and regulators ensure safety and avoid potential gambling harms?

Alexander Korsager
At Casino.org, we are incredibly hot on player safety; it's one of our key focuses. Gambling is only fun if it is entertaining. We always advise players to set a budget and stick to it. No one should ever borrow money to try to win back losses. You would not expect to find other entertainment for free, and gambling is no different. The only variant is that you might walk away with the jackpot, but ultimately, the house always wins, so players should bear that in mind.

Pennsylvania is expanding its prevention programs and deploying more data-driven oversight. It has also allocated increased funding to the state's regulatory framework. Better data monitoring can flag potential problem behavior, and there are new social media efforts to educate the public on warning signs and promote helplines and self-exclusion options.

What next?

Alexander Korsager
Even though I wish I could, I cannot see into the future! However, I think increased personalization will be big, and also people streaming live games as spectators.

Thank you Alexander, we value your expert input and will be keeping an eye out for all that innovation at the online casinos.
