Alchemy is an ancient practice with a wide range of subcategories. You got your good court wizards, or the nasty witches, that use foul ingredients in their recipes. Alchemy is more than just chemistry, it’s a philosophy, which can even involve magic. It might be medieval, but it still has a strong footing in the slot world. Alchemy Ways is about a mysterious alchemist, who is trying to brew his Magnus opus, the ultimate potion. He may be old, but his wisdom knows no boundaries, so it would be wise for you to join him, as there is a reward worth 8000x if you mix your ingredients right.
Red Rake is a newcomer to our page, but by no means they are newcomers in the iGaming scene. Red Rake started out in 2011, so we are looking at a decade of experience in the field. Of course, with time expectations rise as well, so we will have to see how well can Alchemy Ways match with other similar games on the market. A lot of you will be delighted to hear, that Alchemy Ways is no simple 5 by 3 slot, quite the opposite. This slot is loaded with bonus features and the game layout is anything but default. So far things are looking promising, let’s hope it’s not an illusion that the old wizard has created.

Alchemy Ways Slot Review
Gameplay and Payouts
When you open up Alchemy Ways, the screen is quickly filled up with a lot of points of interest. You got your large game layout, spin button, paytable, etc. Some of these things feel out of place so perhaps all these buttons and meters could have been better managed, but it’s not bad enough for it to feel overwhelming. Before you begin your spins, a low humming, almost sinister music plays in the background, but once you start to get into actual spins the game gets a bit rowdier. All in all, it’s a decent presentation, not the best, not the worst.
It’s clearly a much larger layout, opposed to what we usually get. Alchemy Ways comes with 6 reels and 10 rows and in total players can experience up to 1 million paylines. Seems like Megaways have some competition, eh? On these paylines, you need to match at least 3 symbols from left to right. Alchemy Ways clearly doesn’t cut lines between low and high symbols, as values increase gradually, except the last two symbols. So the first eight symbols are 9, 10, J, K, Q, A, a skull and a book. The two superior symbols are alchemy glassware and the grey-bearded alchemist himself. These are the 10 regular symbols, but there are a couple of other special symbols on Alchemy Ways that we will get into in a bit.
Alchemy Ways is a medium-high volatility slot. Red Rake have rated volatility (4/6). The RTP for Alchemy Ways is on the low side, being 95.30%. That’s something that players won’t find favourable, but hopefully, the positives will even things out. We have to say, that the max win potential of 8,000x is much higher than we expected, so that’s a great sight going forward. Alchemy Ways bet range is 0.20 – 25. We don’t think that will bring many complaints.
There are some special symbols on Alchemy Ways, but we haven’t mentioned, that each spin also comes with a bunch of blanks. The blank spots are grey, with a Valknut symbol on them. Valknut is a symbol that Germanic pagans have used, especially the Vikings, but it’s not too clear what correlation it has with the game.
One of the symbols, that you will come across is the Hand of Alchemy. Once the spin stops, the Hand of Alchemy symbol will move to the previous reel position. From this reel, one random symbol will be chosen and copied, then occupying the previous place of the Hand of Alchemy symbol. Mystery Blocks simply breaks some of the blanks, revealing extra symbols. Gold Scatter symbols provide an instant cash price. You need 3 to 6 scatters to get a reward. From the scatters, the biggest payout is 200x.
Surely by now, you have spotted the glass vial on the right side. This Alchemy Ways vial is filled up with all non-winning symbols. When it’s filled up, the Alchemist Wheel feature is triggered. The Alchemist Wheel contains a bunch of different multipliers and a “double” vial. If you land it on one of the multipliers, then this multiplier is applied to your bet and the win is paid out. If you land on double, all multiplier values double and you get another spin. Some vials can contain “exit” on them, if you land on these, the mini-game ends and all the wins if any are paid out.
We are not done yet, because Alchemy Ways also has a Free Spins feature. To gain entry, you need 10 or more Emerald Elixir symbols. These are the ones that spell “Free Spins”. The alchemist can lend a helping hand because alchemist symbols with a number can randomly appear. This number will add to the total Emerald Elixir value, thus helping you reach that magical 10 or granting extra Free Spins if it goes over. During Alchemy Ways Free Spins a multiplier meter will appear on the left side. On each spin, the meter will show a random multiplier which then will be applied to the win on that particular spin. If you end your Free Spins feature with a total lesser than 12x, extra 4 Free Spins are awarded.
Now that we’ve had the chance to visit the old alchemist we can sum up our thoughts. Alchemy Ways is definitely not a regular slot. It feels unique and even a bit strange but in a good way. The 6 by 10 layout with up to 1 million lines seems crazy, but it’s kept back by the blank symbols and the 95.30% RTP. That’s why the slot doesn’t go bonkers easily, but it’s still capable of massive wins. Surely, 8,000x is a win that nobody would mind. The visual presentation isn’t too impressive, we feel like the buttons and all the meters could have been better managed, everything looks a bit scattered around, but other than that, we are looking at a pretty decent slot with a lot of fun bonus features.
