Medieval fantasy fans, we once again have you covered. Play’n GO are using the Arthurian poems as their source of inspiration for the new game. The Green Knight is a mysterious character, as he seems to have a close connection with nature. Perhaps, he was one of the first environmentalists, perhaps he had an unhealthy obsession with the green colour. Whatever the case, The Green Knight now has its own slot. This warrior was one of the strongest knights in the King Arthur’s court so also expect the slot to show its grit the same way.
The Green Knight is a 5 reel slot developed by the renowned provider Play’n GO. We’ve actually had plenty of medieval fantasy slots from Play’n GO, perhaps more than any other provider, with such releases as The Sword and the Grail, Lord Merlin and the Lady of the Lake, Riches of Robin and couple of others. The strongest resemblance is with The Sword and the Grail as both slots share a similar style of gameplay and presentation. The Green Knight comes with a surprisingly big 10,000x max win, so let’s see the best way to reach that potential.

Gameplay and Payouts
Of course, the green tones dominate the visuals. We can see some long green grass, some vines covering old stone walls and a green mist right behind the game layout. The Green Knight is a 20 line slot. The gameplay was a bit choppy from time to time, even on a higher-end system, but we will write this off, because of the early state of demo test. The Green Knight brings a good intensity, which reflects in the intense battle music. It is a good looking slot, but we have seen prettier displays from Play’n GO.
A huge part of the visual presentation is the game symbols. The Green Knight symbols look alright. The low-value T, J, Q, K and A are a bit uninspiring, as these are some regular stone tablets, which come in 5 spectres of colour. On the other hand, high-value symbols are more nicely detailed, featuring an axe, a warhorse, a lady and a knight, which according to tales could be Sir Gawain, who stood against the Green Knight. Speaking of him, The Green Knight is the slot’s scatter symbol. His face is obscured by the wooden branched helmet, while his armour has spots of green moss on it. He almost has this villainous look to him, even though he is not considered to be sinister.
The Green Knight is a high-intensity slot, which means that the volatility is high, being rated (8/10) by Play’n GO. The default RTP of the game is 96.27%, but as always, operators might set it up differently. The Green Knight max win is 10,000x, which can be score with a single wild line hit if your wild multiplier is 100x, but more on that in a moment. As all Play’n GO slots, The Green Knight is well optimized for all devices. Bet range follows the standard of 0.10 – 100.
The wild symbols of The Green Knight have a higher purpose here than usual. First of all, the wild symbol can be recognized as a sigil/shield. Above the reels, you will spot a meter, which can activate before any spin, granting one of the multipliers to any wild symbols you land.
3 or more of the Green Knight scatters will trigger 5 Free Spins. The special addition to the Free Spins is the progressive multiplier. This means, that on every spin the multiplier for wilds gradually increases (2x, 5x, 10x, 25x and 100x). At least one wild is guaranteed on each spin. If you land 2 Green Knights during Free Spins, a feature called Shield Spins is triggered, which awards 5 Shield Spins. The current multiplier is locked and instead of one spin, you get 5 additional spins with the set multiplier. So essentially it is a bonus game within a bonus game.
Seems like Play’n GO really enjoy the Arthurian setting, as they keep on releasing slots based on this period. So far pretty much all slots that revolve around this setting have been great. The same can definitely be said about The Green Knight. We really enjoyed the presentation and the gameplay, it felt familiar enough to understand the game straight away but at the same time fresh and new to get our interest in the first place.
