The original Dragon's Fire was a big hit for a lot of us, so the new MegaWays™ version comes with a lot of excitement. Red Tiger are trying their best to turn a beloved title into something more impressive. If Dragon's Fire MegaWays™ can live up to the expectations is yet to be seen. People from Red Tiger love to slap on a MegaWays™ brand to cult classics, essentially giving them a second breath, but not always this works out as planned.
Naturally, some of the Dragon's Fire MegaWays™ stats have been increased, but there are a few things that strangely have been untouched. Nothing really has been removed though, so you shouldn't worry that your favourite game elements are gone. Time to find out if the MegaWays™ addition takes this slot to a new level or if it creates just another unimportant remake.
Dragon’s Fire Review
Design and Payouts
If you have played the original Dragon's Fire, then almost all of the game elements will be familiar to you. It's the same dragon lair with the same dragon guarding the egg. This beautiful golden design is still as pretty as the original. Comparing it to the predecessor, the smoothness of the gameplay is not the same, as the additional action that comes from the MegaWays™ takes a little toll on the processing system.
Symbols of the Dragon's Fire MegaWays™ slot make it a true Red Tiger game, these gorgeously designed symbols are vibrant and engaging. The nine regular symbols can be split up in two parts. Dragon eggs are the low paying symbols, in total there are four of them – blue, green, red and golden egg. High paying symbols are four dragons in the corresponding colours. Each of them wraps around some sort of magical item, which makes up for a cool visual effect. The top symbol is the dragon's eye. Dragon's Fire also comes with some burning wilds, which substitute for all paying symbols.
Strangely enough, the payout stats on Dragon's Fire MegaWays™ have barely changed. Of course, the paylines are bumped up to 117,649 instead of 40 lines. Due to this the reels and rows also have been expanded, but the max payout still is 10,000x, same as on the original Dragon's Fire. Now on its own, 10,000x max win is an amazing potential, life-changing even, but why add extra lines if you don't really get bigger rewards. Volatility is still maxed out as high and the hit rate has been improved slightly. So even though the rewards are the same, it should be a bit easier to get them, due to the increased hitrate, right? Not entirely, as RTP has been dropped to 95.72% instead of the Dragon's Fire original 96.07%.
Same as on the original Dragon's Fire, the MegaWays™ version comes with 4 iconic features. This is great news as players have really enjoyed these in the past. Perhaps the most noticeable feature is the Dragon's Egg Multiplier. Every consecutive win increases the total multiplier. Usually, this type of feature is present during a bonus game, but Dragon's Fire MegaWays™ makes it available during the main game. To make the deal even sweeter Dragon's Eye Boost comes to aid. This feature can increase the multiplier up to 10x on a single spin. Combine these two, and your main game payouts can exceed what players usually get on bonus rounds.
The dragon may sit calmly, but from time to time, he decides to scorch the reels with the Fire Blast. This fire has a pleasant outcome, as it can leave multiple wilds or even free spin symbols on the reels, plus a chance for a big win. Speaking of wins, your best bet would be the Free Spins. These are triggered by 3 Free Spin symbols, which need to land anywhere on the reels. The number of Free Spins is determined by a choice…kind of, as you are given 3 dragon sigils to choose from, each hiding a certain amount of spins. It's even possible to get 50 free spins from the get-go, so Dragon's Fire MegaWays™ provide a good amount of playtime. Very beneficial is the fact, that the multiplier can carry over from the main game to the bonus and visa versa.
As a standalone game, Dragon's Fire MegaWays™ is a fantastic slot, but as a remake/sequel it doesn't add up. Usually, when slots are rebranded as a MegaWays™ version, all the payouts are buffed up and the game becomes much more explosive. With Dragon's Fire MegaWays™ that's not the case as essentially, the possible rewards are the same. MegaWays™ wasn't necessarily something that this game needed, as it is a great slot on its own. Perhaps for some, the new game layout will bring more entertainment and longevity.
