Count your lucky chips, because we are about to go down the old Route 66. Let’s find out if Neon Links is capable to entertain the gamblers of the world.
We’ve had plenty of fruit slots and we’ve had plenty of Las Vegas-inspired slots, but what happens when you put both of those together? The answer is simple, we have also had plenty of Las Vegas fruit slots, but that didn’t stop Red Tiger to produce another one. Neon Links Slot Review
Gameplay and Payouts
Las Vegas is famous for its neon lights and beautiful casinos, so Neon Links tries to portray that, at least to some extent. The background consists of various polaroid style pictures of the city. The game layout has red, flashy borders around it with a beautiful “Neon Links” logo at the top. For a classic slot, it’s a pretty decent presentation. It’s nothing flashy or special, but it’s enough to catch interest. The soundtrack mixes the classic slot machine sounds with nice drum-lead music. This sort of presentation has been used by Red Tiger before, so it’s nothing new, at least for us, but in general, it does the job well enough.
When it comes to Neon Links symbols, we’re going to use the word classic, because that’s simply what they are. Lows consist of 4 card suits and highs are 5 classic fruit machine symbols, such as cherry, grapes, horseshoe, bell and red seven. All of these symbols have a special neon variant, but more on that when we talk about the bonus features of Neon Links. This is a 5 by 3 slot that utilizes 10 paylines. This has been the most widely used game model and for a good reason, because it’s dependable and easy to understand, hence why the majority of players prefer it. The quality of symbols is decent. They fit the general style well.
Some things are better left in past, like the payouts of old fruit slots. Unfortunately, in this case, the fruit machine experience is brought over to payouts. Neon Links doesn’t have a high payout ceiling, the max win just slightly goes over 1,000x, which is nothing, if you compare it to some modern games. Then again, perhaps we’ve been spoiled too much because nobody would really mind a 1,000x win and in this case, the chance to score such a number is much more realistic than some of those slots that offer those ridiculous potentials. The RTP could have been a bit better, but 95.67% isn’t the worst showing. Neon Links is a medium volatility slot, so the winning and losing spins are fairly balanced. You will be able to play Neon Links on all devices. The bet range goes from 0.10 to 100.
Back to what we discussed before, the part where the neons come into play. All the regular symbols can appear in a neon variant. The Neon Symbols have the same value as the regular symbols, but they can form special wins, by connecting with each other. For example, if a neon symbol drops on the 2nd row 1 cell, then another such symbol on the 2nd rows fourth cell will form a connection, filling up all the spots in between with the same symbol.
To make it more “Las Vegasy”, Neon Links also comes with the Vegas Spins bonus feature. This is triggered by landing 2 Vegas Spins symbols on both sides of the layout, so one on reel 1 and one on reel 5. They also need to be located on the same row. Before your 10 Vegas Spins begin, one random symbol will be picked. During Free Spins, this symbol will always expand to cover the whole reel size, so same way it is with expanding symbols, that are so popular with book slots. The symbols connect the same way they do during the regular game.
Neon Links won’t really substitute a full Las Vegas experience, but it brings a tiny slice of that delicious Vegas pie. Red Tiger have a bunch of other slots that are similar to this one, so Neon Link isn’t anything particularly new. The visuals are nice, although very simple, but that is the whole vibe of the game, as it is based on a classic fruit slot model. The Neon Symbols is a good idea because it brings this unusual element that binds the symbols. The Vegas Spins add a “book” slot layer, which is a bit unexpected but still fun nonetheless. Neon Links didn’t blow us away, but it still is a pretty entertaining slot to play.
