If you’ve had sugar rush as a kid, then Sugar Frenzy feels exactly like that. Super faced paced, full of colours and animations, it sometimes even feels that rush might be caused by something else than just sugar. For those who have a sweet tooth, Sugar Frenzy will be the ultimate treat, as there are sweets and candies everywhere. But flashy colours need to be backed up by good math model and that is what we will try to find out.
Triple Cherry is an upcoming provider, that has already released some solids slots, such as Tomoe’s Sushi Bar and Thunder Rock. With each new release, the expectations rise as well, so it will be interesting to see how comparable to the previous titles is the Sugar Frenzy slot. But without further ado, let’s jump straight into this.
Sugar Frenzy is a very colourful slot, although pink mostly dominates the appearance. If you love sweets, then this for you might look like heaven, if you don’t then it might look a tad bit sickly. Graphically Sugar Frenzy is probably the most complex Triple Cherry slot, as almost everything is 3D and animated. To be honest, Sugar Frenzy gives out some mixed vibes. It is a cute looking slot, but at some points, it feels borderline creepy. Preference of theme is always a subjective opinion, as we can’t deny that the overall quality is quite impressive. You guessed it, Sugar Frenzy symbols are a bunch of different candies, like a marshmallow, cookie, lollipop, cupcake and so on. In total there are 8 regular candy symbols plus the grey gumdrop, which is a pivotal part of the bonus features. Wins are made by matching symbols from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel. The wild symbol is a golden gumdrop. These symbols are quirky and colourful, and visually they do look good, but, perhaps, for some more masculine players, this game will seem too ‘’Childish’’ looking.
Seems like Sugar Frenzy was focused on the presentation a bit too much, as payouts seem to be left behind. It’s no surprise that volatility is medium, as high volatility wouldn’t really fit with the overall setting. The two below-average numbers are the RTP of 95.22% and a max win of 712x. You could argue that this is balanced out by the 50% hit rate, but still, the Sugar Frenzy payouts just don’t look too impressive, they don’t really get you all that excited. It’s not like these stats are bad, they are just underwhelming and very medium.
Bonus Features
Seems like more and more slots are replacing scatters with elaborate ways to trigger a bonus. Sugar Frenzy is another great example, how three bonus symbols are not the only way to start a feature. You may have already noticed the small red hooks, which hang over the game layout, these are called Sweet Hooks. This is also the part where the grey gumdrop comes into play. In total, there are four types of candies that are dropped from the hook. If the candy on the hook coincides with the reel where grey gumdrop is located, then various Sugar Frenzy features can be triggered.
Yellow candy will turn all symbols, surrounding the gumdrop into wilds. Blue candy activates Sugar Frenzy Free Spins. Red candy triggers an explosion, that destroys surrounding symbols and triggers a respin. Last but not least, the Green candy grants an instant money win. Usually, you can see about 3 to 4 hooks at once, but grey gumdrops appear a lot less frequently.
Obviously, the main bonus feature on Sugar Frenzy is the Free Spins, which you get from the blue candy. The scenario takes a wild turn as we then transfer to the stomach of a monster, a candy monster if you will. Sugar Frenzy Free Spins have an unlimited number of turns, the bonus ends only when the progress bar is filled up. Just as with hooks before, also during Free Spins grey gumdrops can eat up Chili symbols. These Sugar Frenzy chilis come in three different sizes - small, medium and large. The bigger the chilli, the faster the bar fills up. So essentially, chilis are bad, candy is good, remember that, while you play.
Conclusion
Sugar Frenzy for sure has to be the graphically most impressive slot from Triple Cherry, it definitely is packed with great visual effects, so big props for that. We also believe that the bonus features are well executed, as they offer a more unique experience that what we are accustomed to. They may lack some of that excitement, which bonuses bring, but still, the entertainment value is there. If we would have to draw any negatives, then it would be the sub-par Sugar Frenzy payouts. These are some average stats, with a rather low max win, so don’t get your hopes up too much. All in all, Sugar Frenzy is a decent slot, but it should be used more as a learning experience.
