WRC 2024 Latvia

Tet Rally Liepaja 2023 was the last challenge for Latvia to pass, so it could prove that we can host the FIA World Rally Championship. What can we say about the TET rally Liepaja 2023? It was a great success, and therefore Latvia has been given the honor of becoming the host country of the FIA World Rally Championship! Latvia will host the WRC Rally Latvia 2024 round. This is a special moment for Latvia - it is an important step to strengthen Latvia's name in the world of motorsport. The WRC Latvia round will proudly bear the new name of Tet Rally Latvia.

There is less than a year left to prepare for the WRC 2024 Latvia round. The expectations are high – TET Rally Latvia is known as one of the most challenging European rallies due to the gravel surface and incredible speed. The exact date for the WRC 2024 Latvia is unknown yet, but it will take place in the summer. We are still waiting for the WRC 2024 calendar to be confirmed and published.

Special stages

WRC 2024 Latvia will reach a widespread area of Latvia, starting with the rally capital Liepaja and ending with Riga. The WRC standards require that the distance of the rally round is at least 300 kilometers long. It means that the route will take drivers not only through Liepaja and Riga, but also through Talsi, Kuldīga, Tukums, and South Kurzeme regions.

WRC Latvia 2024

Most WRC 2024 Latvia special stages will take place on forest roads belonging to AS Latvijas Valsts mezi. Currently, AS Latvijas Valsts mezi and RA Events – TET Rally Latvia 2024 organizer, are discussing the possible arrangement of the special stages, accessibility, and all the necessary preparatory work. RA Events emphasizes that WRC Latvia 2024 is a great opportunity to show the beautiful nature of Latvia to the world – the vast, green forests. Nonetheless, the organization of the rally also includes informing and educating society about the norms of behavior in the forest and the protection of the environment.

The most significant motorsport event in Latvia

The long-standing collaboration with WRC Promoter, the organizer of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) European Rally Championship and the FIA World Rally Championship, has resulted in a great opportunity for Latvia to show itself as a serious player in the world motorsport scene. Undeniably, this will be the largest and most significant motorsport event in the history of Latvia. The World Rally Championship is broadcasted by 50 broadcasters in more than 150 countries. Holding the WRC TET Latvia 2024 round will contribute to bringing the name of Latvia to the world. This is a great opportunity to present Latvia as an exciting tourist destination.

According to WRC statistics, the TV audience for one WRC round is 78 million viewers, while the audience for the whole season reaches almost 550 million viewers. It is predicted that the WRC TET Rally Latvia 2024 round could attract around 50 000 spectators, most of whom will be foreigners. WRC Latvia 2024 will positively affect the economy of the region of Kurzeme. It is estimated that foreign visitors will spend around 17 million euros in Latvia.

WRC

The FIA World Rally Championship or simply WRC is an international car rally race that has been taking place since 1973. The World Rally Championship is organized by the International Automobile Federation (FIA). The World Rally Championship is divided into 13 rallies, covering 5 continents and 13 countries. The year 2024 will be slightly different as a new rally round has been added – WRC Latvia. The drivers and their cars must overcome drastically different tracks in contrasting weather conditions. WRC drivers experience everything from snowy forest tracks in the winter slush to dusty mountain passes in the summer heat. Each of the World Rally Championship host countries brings its own unique landscape and specific weather conditions.

Each round of the rally consists of 15 to 25 timed sections or special stages. Drivers race one at a time to complete these stages as quickly as possible. The crew which completes all stages in the shortest cumulative time is the winner of the rally. WRC points are given to the top 10 fastest drivers on a 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1 basis. The World Rally Championship title goes to the driver with the most points in the whole rally season.

WRC 2023

WRC races are held with strict rules and precise strategies. Each round of the rally begins with 2 days of test drives, where the driver and the co-driver try out the route at a limited speed. In the morning of the next day, drivers can test the rally round at full speed. In the evening, usually, it happens on Thursdays, the real rally begins. The competition continues until noon on Sunday when the rally ends with the Power Stage – the five fastest drivers can earn bonus points.

WRC leaders

The WRC 2023 season is in full swing, at this moment more than 8 rally rounds are completed, and the leaders already stand out. Kalle Rovanpera, Elfyn Evans, and Thierry Evans are the top 3 drivers of this WRC season. Let us find out who they are and what they are up to!

Kalle Rovanpera

The Finish driver Kalle Rovanpera firmly holds his first place. From the start of WRC 2023 season, there was no doubt that Kalle Rovanpera would be one of the favorites. Kalle Rovanpera alongside co-driver John Haltunen competes for Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT. Rovanpera has rallying in his blood, his father was a WRC driver as well. Kalle showed his talent to the world at the age of 8, when he drifted in a small rally car through snowy forests like a pro. Kalle is 23 years old and already holds the 2022 World Rally Championship title. The WRC rally tends to be unpredictable - even the most professional driver can find himself in a tricky situation. Will Kalle Rovanpera manage to maintain his leadership position?

Elfyn Evans

The quiet Welshman Elfyn Evans has spent the last three years struggling with the coincidences of circumstances. This never-ending struggle has prevented him from showing his true talent. In the 2020 WRC final, Elfin Evans and his co-driver Scott Martin suffered a crash that denied them the chance to become the WRC 2020 champion, and they had to settle for second place. The 2021 season took the same course – only 23 points separated Elfyn Evans from the leading position. The next rally season was even worse, and he did not rank among the favorites because he could not get to grip with the new Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 car. However, in the WRC 2023 season, he started as one of the main favorites for the championship title. Now, Elfin Evans is in second position, but Thierry Neuville is already breathing down his neck.

Thierry Neuville

Thierry Neuville is a Belgian driver known not only for his extravagant and colorful taste in watches and glasses but also for his talent. He has climbed the WRC podium 60 times. But unfortunately, has not won any championship titles. Thierry Neuville is the clear leader in this year's World Rally Championship. Will this year be his year? Ott Tanak and Sebastien Ogier are two other favorites who are showing excellent performances and are determined to get the championship title. The WRC 2023 season will end on November 19 in Japan, then the 2023 World Rally Champion will be crowned. Will the top 5 be the same next year?
